VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) led by junior engineer carried out inspection at Khariwado slums on Monday and were shocked to see structures illegally constructed over the creek leading to clogging of drains.
Taking cognizance, MMC Chief Officer has decided to issue demolition notice to raze the illegal structures.
According to information, Khariwado ward councillor Lavina D’Souza recently received complaints of clogging of drains during rains and when she visited the site, she was surprised to see encroachments over the creek.
“I am helpless because everywhere people have encroached and now cannot even move JCB in the area due to encroachments. But whenever anyone falls sick due to stagnation of water, they blame the councillor,” she said.
Meanwhile, taking serious cognizance of the encroachments, municipality officials inspected the site where structures were seen built on gutters. A report was placed before MMC chief officer Agnelo Fernandes who decided to take strict action.
