PANJIM: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Wednesday said that the term of the United Insurance Company Limited that provides health insurance under Deen Dayal Swasthya Yojana (DDSSY) has been extended by three month extension. The contract with the company had ended on March 31, 2018.
“United India Insurance Ltd that provides health insurance scheme under the DDSSY has been given extension for three months. The scheme will be open only for government undertaking insurance companies and private companies will not be preferred,” Rane said.
He clarified that a change in insurance company will not make any difference to policy holders. However, the State government may have to shell out over 300 percent more to continue the cashless health insurance scheme.
Sources in the Health Department said that four insurance companies have quoted for the scheme, but all have quoted between Rs 9,000 and 10,000 per card, forcing the department to take time to open the bids.
