The decision to allow a passenger train from New Delhi to Margao has drawn severe criticism in the State. People across the State have opposed it. Goa is in the Green Zone with no active COVID-19 case. The arrival of the train from a Red Zone to a Green Zone is not a wise decision, as this increases by multiple times the danger of COVID-19 spreading in the State. Goa has successfully curtailed the spread of the virus. Goans have stayed home to avoid the virus. The borders of the State are closed. Only vehicles with essentials and those that have special travel passes are being allowed. If train services resume at this point of time, Goa will not be in position to handle the screening, quarantining and monitoring of the thousands of passengers. The very purpose of the long lockdown will be defeated. Other Chief Ministers have voiced their opposition to trains services. This is one decision that the State government has to get deferred, at least until the COVID-19 spread is brought under control.
