Thieves target city shops

The daring with which thieves are at large in Goa's towns has shocked the general public. After robbing six shops at Mapusa, the thieves have now struck four shops in the capital Panjim sending shivers down people's spines that the 'monsoon burglars' care to hoots for the police.

PANJIM: The daring with which thieves are at large in Goa’s towns has shocked the general public. After robbing six shops at Mapusa, the thieves have now struck four shops in the capital Panjim sending shivers down people’s spines that the ‘monsoon burglars’ care to hoots for the police. 

Three shops at Bhatlem and one at St Inez were robbed of cash and valuables amounting to more than Rs 30,000. The robberies took place on the night of June 16. 

According to the first complainant Dharam Panchal, unknown accused bent the shutter and entered the shop at Dhanlaxmi building. Panjim police said cash of Rs 4000 and Nokia cell phone with dual SIM all worth approximately Rs 5,000 were missing. Two other shops M N Motors Shop No A-11 and Jaiwanti restaurant Shop No A-16, in the same locality were also robbed. 

Another complainant Harish Dewasi, a resident of Madhubhan complex, St Inez claimed that Shetye Sweet Mart, around St Inez area was robbed of approximately Rs 11,000. The notorious outlaws, with sweet tooth also stole expensive chocolates from the shop. The modus operandi of the thieves in these thefts was the same, police sources said.  Sources said police found certain leads through CCTV grabs which show two persons committing the crime.
