PANJIM: Taking pot-shots at the Congress and the BJP, former chief minister of Goa, Dr Wilfred de Souza Sunday stressed the need for a Third Front in Goa.
A national daily on Sunday reported that Dr Willy would join Trinamool Congress, which is UPA’s alliance partner.
However, Dr de Souza dismissed the report as “rumours”.
Trinamool is not a bad option though, as it is a part of the UPA, he said and added that there is no question of joining Trinamool as it does not exist in Goa.
“If they start a state unit, only then we can think over it,” he stated.
He further advocated need for a Third Front in the State which can be an alternative to the Congress and the BJP.
“Congress is secular but very corrupt and the BJP is communal. So as Goans we have little options as small regional parties like Goa Vikas Party, UGDP and MGP cannot form a government on their own,” he said.
Though denying reports, Dr de Souza, however, seemed quite interested in the Trinamool coming to Goa.
“I have not joined any party ever since I left NCP as I have no option,” he said.
Dr Willy also stated that he is not contesting from Saligao as his son-in-law Tulio de Sousa will contest from there.
A national daily Hindustan Times reported that Dr Willy will formally join Trinamool on January 1.
The paper quoted Trinamool general secretary Mukul Roy as saying “The formal announcement of de Souza joining the Trinamool Congress will be made on January 1, which is our Foundation Day. He was inspired by the honest image of our leader (Mamata Banerjee) to join the party.”
The paper also reported that on December 26, de Souza, 85, met Roy in Kolkata and expressed his desire to join the party. Later he met Banerjee.
