Those littering public places in Varca with garbage to be fined

MARGAO: The Varca gram sabha on Sunday deliberated on the garbage menace and decided to fine persons littering garbage at public place and along roadsides.
Sarpanch Luiza Rodrigues said though the panchayat has began collecting dry garbage twice a month, some elements are dumping garbage in front of panchayat office.
Gram sabha members demanded that panchayat install 10 CCTVs at strategic location to trap those littering garbage and impose a heavy fine. After much debate, it was decided that garbage littered by individual households in public place will be fined Rs 1,000 while housing complexes Rs 5,000.
It was also suggested to ask tourism department to help to keep the Fatrade and Varca beaches garbage free. One of the gram sabha member informed that the tourism department contractor who collected garbage from shore was throwing it at above the shore which he asked the sarpanch to inform the department.  There was also demand from gram sabha members to impose rent tax on those renting out rooms to migrants.
