PANJIM: The Crime Branch of Goa Police has registered an FIR against three persons for allegedly demanding Rs 50,000 every month as protection money from a businessman from Ratnagiri.
According to the police, Sone Satheeb Ramchandran, a fish trader and a native of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, having office at Malim jetty, Betim, lodged a complaint that on October 27, and in the morning of October 29 at Malim Jetty and parking lot of Merces Church, Merces, the three accused demanded Rs 50,000 on monthly basis as protection money.
The accused threatened the complainant with dire consequences and to damage or burn his fish truck, if the amount is not paid to them.
The accused were identified as Dominic Nazareth, Buddu and Kumar even as their full names were not made available.
The Crime Branch has registered the case against the accused under sections 384, 386 and 506 (ii) read with 34 of IPC. The accused are absconding, the police said.
