Three cases of unnatural death registered by Colva police in a day

MARGAO: Colva police recorded three instances of unnatural deaths (UDs) within their

jurisdiction, all of which have been registered under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

In the first case, Sadanand Satyanarayan Das reported to the police that Mata Prasad Bhargava,  82, was found dead in the toilet of a flat in their building. Bhargava hailed from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, but was residing in Colva. Initial investigations suggest that Bhargava, who was unwell, may have collapsed due to health issues. Following the necessary procedures, including the inquest panchanama, the body was transferred to South Goa District Hospital, Margao.

The second case involved the death of 72-year-old Akhaya Kumar Das, a resident of Florida Gardens, Vanelim. Das was brought dead from his residence to a private hospital in Margao by his son, who reported it as a case of accidental self-fall. Subsequent inquiries indicated that Das might have fallen while walking in the passage of their first-floor flat. No foul play is suspected, and after the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.

In the third case, Colva Police received reports from their Cavelossim outpost and lifeguard on Cavelossim beach regarding the discovery of an unknown male’s body, approximately 40 years old, on the seashore. Upon investigation, police found a slip of paper with a telephone number belonging to Mehboob Saheb from Hubballi, along with a mobile phone. Saheb identified the deceased as Mohammad Sadiq, 36, a resident of Ibrahimpur, Hubballi. Sadiq had left home on May 13, intending to go to Dandeli, and had informed his family on May 15 that he was in Karwar but was distressed due to bank loans. Family members suspect suicide due to financial difficulties.
