Three fire fighting vehicles launched

PANJIM: Three fire fighting vehicles — water bowser, emergency rescue tender and water tender are being added to the existing fleet of the vehicles with Goa Fire and Emergency Services in the current financial year. 

On Friday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawnat flagged off the Fire Fighting Vehicle (Water Bowser) which is one of the three Fire Fighting Vehicles. The government had recently approved purchase of the vehicles. 

“The water bowser has been dispatched to us after fabrication and it will be stationed at Fire Station, Ponda. One Emergency Rescue Tender and One Water Tender is due to be commissioned in September 2021,” Director Ashok Menon said. 

Meanwhile, the Central government has created a culture of volunteerism in Disaster Risk Reduction as a part of which a Memorandum of Understanding of the Aapda Mitra Scheme is being signed between National Disaster Management Authority and State Disaster Management Authority- Goa. 

Menon said, “This scheme envisages training of 400 Community Volunteers (Aapda Mitra and Aapda Sakhi) from 200 each from North and South Goa Districts. The MoU will entail release of funds for undertaking the training and purchasing equipments for Emergency Response Kit for 400 volunteers and Emergency Essential Resource Reserve for both the District of the State.”

“The training will commence in September for selected candidates,” he said.
