Calangute police on Thursday arrested three persons, while a fourth managed to escape, in connection with a series of robberies in different parts of the State.
A Calangute police team led by PI Nolasco Raposo raided a guest house at Siolim and nabbed John Yong (39), a native of Nagaland, Raju Temraj (25), a native of Karnataka but residing at Margao and Kalpesh Shirodker (20) of Cuncolim.
The fourth accused managed to escape by jumping off the first floor of the guest house and injuring himself in the process. A pistol loaded with bullets, a knife and a car were also recovered from them.
Speaking to Herald, PI Raposo said Yong had confessed his involvement in the two separate crimes at Calangute, where Hungarian, Spanish and Goan as well as a Pune couple were recently robbed at gunpoint a few days back.
“Yong has also confessed his involvement in the recent robbery at Agassaim, the cheating of a woman in Panjim by posing as a policeman and in the brutal attack on an Old Goa Panch a few months back,” said PI Raposo.
According to PI Raposo, Raju and Kalpesh confessed their involvement in theft cases at Raia, theft of two-wheelers and chain-snatching robberies.
A search operation is in progress to nab the absconding person, as investigations are being carried out under the supervision of PI Raposo.
