Three shops burgled at Curchorem

CURCHOREM: Some unknown persons broke into three shops at Curchorem market and took away cash amounting to around Rs 20,000 on intervening night of Thursday and Friday.

According to investigating officer, Police Sub-Inspector Gautam Shetkar, a metal mart, bakery and a grocery shop in the main market of Curchorem was burgled and it came to light on Friday morning when the shop owners noticed the broken shutters of their shops.

“Miscreants have only taken cash from the shops and no material theft was reported,” informed PSI Shetkar.

Dog squad and forensic expert were brought in and the police registered a case against the unknown culprits Under Section 457 and 380 of Indian Penal Code.

Following the incident, Curchorem Congress Block Committee members called on Curchorem Police Station Police Inspector Ravindra Dessai and urged him to be alert about the activities taking place in Curchorem and requested for proper night patrolling in the area.

Former councillor of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council Manohar Naik said that around 64 CCTV cameras are installed in the Curchorem by the municipality but not a single camera is operating.

“What is the use of installing cameras by spending public money if they are not functioning? They were installed to help the police to detect the crimes but all the installed cameras are not functioning due to lack of maintenance,” said Naik.

Local MLA and Power Minister Nilesh Cabral admitted that CCTV cameras are not functioning and said that a new technology wireless camera has been installed at one of the locations on trial basis.
