MAPUSA: During a special gram sabha conveyed by the Tivim village panchayat, recently, the villagers approved the draft Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (CZMP) prepared by the panchayat and villagers.
Earlier, the panchayat had scrapped the draft CZMP prepared by Chennai-based agency and had passed a resolution to prepare a new village plan taking the locals into consideration. During this special gram sabha, the panchayat members in presence of villagers approved the new village plan.
Sarpanch Sunita Salgaonkar informed that many important locations were missing on the previous plan. However, in the new plan prepared by the panchayat, all the important areas are demarcated by taking help of the villagers. In the previous plan prepared by the agency, the khazan lands were shown as mangroves. There are many sluice gates in the village which were not marked on the plan.
“In the new plan, 17 sluice gates are marked as well as changes are made with regards to demarcation of khazan lands which were shown as mangroves. Also changes are made in the demarcation of areas where it was shown as buffer zones,” the villagers said.
The villagers also said that no Coastal Regulation Zone and High Tide Line are applicable within the jurisdiction of all the sluice gates as per the Act.
The panchayat has also demarcated the two historic forts located in the village which were missing on the previous plan. The locals further resolved that an amount of Rs 50,000 should be deducted from the total money to be paid to this Chennai based agency by the government since the plan made by them was incorrect based on satellite images and this Rs 50,000 should be compensated to the panchayat.
