PONDA: Tivrem-Orgao Panchayat has warned vendors against dumping waste into the main nullah at Marcel Bazaar.
Tivrem Orgao Sarpanch Jayesh Naik said that the nullah was cleaned by the panchayat last year, however, vendors were found dumping waste and the nullah has choked again. He urged the vendors as well as locals not to dump waste into Marcel nullah else they would be issued hefty fines.
Naik said, “Frequent cleaning of nullah means waste of public money. Most of the people are literate and should maintain cleanliness as Marcel is gradually becoming a tourist place due to the temple and the State government’s recognition of the famous Chikolkalo festival.”
Stating that the responsibility of maintaining the cleanliness of the village is not just of the panchayat but also of the people, the Sarpanch said, “Panchayat collects garbage and people should hand over the garbage to them. Many people and vendors fail to give garbage and dump their waste into the nullah. All kind of waste is released and some people make news of it. This earns bad publicity to the village.”
Warning the violators of hefty fines, Naik informed that so far 40 people have been issued fines for littering garbage into the nullah.
He further informed that it is also decided to restore the internal pathways and roads that were dug for development work. In this regard PWD team conducted an inspection and soon pathways would be restored.
