PONDA: The Tivrem-Vargao gram sabha demanded that the panchayat hikes rent to shops leased out in its premises.
The panchayat owns two buildings and has many shops that have been rented out but the shopkeepers were paying very low monthly rents.
Members brought to the notice of the panchayat that shop keepers were operating their business by paying very low rents and demanded that it he hiked as it would generated some income.
Sarpanch Jayesh Naik informed the members that the vendors were operating from here since the past 35 years but there was no agreement with the panchayat.
The members told the sarpanch that the body should take legal advice and find a way out to the vexatious issue.
