TMC leader accused Centre of wasting Parliament session denying discussion on Pegasus

PANJIM: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O’Brien on Wednesday said that the Modi government has been caught over Pegasus snooping following the Supreme Court constituting a three-member expert committee to probe the Pegasus allegations. Speaking to reporters, O’Brien alleged that the BJP-led NDA government wasted three weeks of monsoon session of Parliament by denying discussion on Pegasus spyware case.

Claiming that the TMC was the first party to raise the Pegasus issue in Parliament, O’Brien said, ”All 21 days of Parliament session the BJP government did not allow discussion on Pegasus, on internal security and on Snoopgate and hacking where of every mobile including of TMC general secretary and I-PAC agency working with us.”

According to O’Brien, he brought up this issue every single day of the Parliament session and was supported by all opposition parties. Today, what has happened is evident in the words of the Supreme Court that the BJP government has been caught, he claimed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were responsible for washing out of entire session of Parliament, he charged.

O’Brien also condemned smearing of TMC posters and banners having West Bengal Chief Minister Mamat Banerjee’s photograph. He said, “The only woman Chief Minister has been insulted. We all know this is certainly not the culture of Goa.”

Suspecting the involvement of BJP in the smearing of defacing of TMC flags and posters in the State, he charged that the BJP is damaging the local businesses because it is these Goan vendors/contractors, who will have to pay from their own pockets for all the vandalised banners and hoardings.

Challenging the BJP, O’Brien said, “You want to fight, fight us politically. Why don’t you respond to the nine-point People’s chargesheet.”

TMC leader Yatish Naik said that removing and damaging party posters and banners shows intolerant behaviour of the BJP and their behaviour does not fit in democracy.

Adv Naik said that the BJP has no track record of governance and the BJP appointed Governor Satya Pal Malik also said that the BJP government in Goa indulged in corruption in everything.
