PERNEM: In a tragic incident, a one-and-half-year-old child succumbed to injuries which she had sustained two days back while trying to remove a toy, which had accidentally fallen below a bus caught up in a traffic jam at Mopa, Pernem.
According to the police, the incident occurred at around 7.30 pm at Hankhane, Mopa, on December 12. A Kadamba Transport Corporation Ltd (KTCL) bus was caught in a traffic jam at Hankhane, while the car in which the child was travelling was before the bus.
When the occupants of the car got down and were busy removing things from the car, the toddler too followed them. But as her toy slipped from her hand and went under the bus, the child went below the bus to fetch it.
However, one onlooker noticed the child being below the bus and pulled her out. But in the process, the child sustained an injury on her hip. She was admitted to a hospital for treatment. But doctors could not save her and she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday.
When contacted, the Pernem police said that no complaint has been filed in the matter.
