MAPUSA: Police constables attached to the tourists unit were assaulted on duty by 11 tourists on Calangute beach.
According to Calangute police, two tourist police constables attached to Calangute police were assaulted by 11 local tourists from Delhi and Haryana on Tuesday.
The incident took place at around 3.34 pm when a group of 11 persons were consuming alcohol on Calangute beach and creating nuisance.
When two police constables on duty namely Sandesh Chodankar and Ladu went over and requested them to not to drink alcohol in public place and to stop creating nuisance, the 11 persons under the influence of alcohol started abusing the constables and further assaulted the two who sustained injuries.
The constables then dialled 100 and contacted the Calangute police station. Immediately, a team of police officials reached the site and apprehended the accused persons.
The tourists are booked under section 143, 147, 504, 323, 332, 353 r/w 149 IPC. They are currently on remand of judicial custody and also sent for a medical examination. Calangute police is further investigating the case. PSI Kirtidas Gaude is investigating the case under supervision of PI Jivba Dalvi.
