PONDA: Trade Union Leader Puti Gaonkar on Tuesday urged the State government to restart at least three of the six medical dispensaries under the Employees State Corporation (ESI) on urgent basis.
Addressing the media persons, Gaonkar said, “The workers engaged in jobs in various sectors are suffering for not getting medical benefits as well as salaries for the illness leave period as around six dispensaries under Employees State Corporation (ESI) are shut down by government since March and doctors working there have been shifted to COVID Hospital for the treatment of COVID patients.”
He said that he had complained to the Chief Minister about the problems faced by workers for the past three months due to closure of ESI dispensaries operating at Ponda, Margao, Mapusa, Vasco and other places.
“I had requested the Chief Minister to restart at least three dispensaries in the State immediately so that the workers could get their benefits. However, it appears that Health Minister has not put in effort to restart those dispensaries,” stated the trade union leader.
He also mentioned that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has approved to open three dispensaries and the file has been forwarded to the Health Minister.
