In fact, the traders from Margao under the banner of Quraishi’s Meat Traders Association of Goa have decided to go to the Meat Complex at Usgao on Friday with the 18 bullocks they have procured for slaughter.
Briefing the media, vice president of the Association Sheikh Jabir Beppari demanded to know what the FDA has got to do with the Goa Meat Complex. “We have relieved a letter from the FDA to comply with certain things. We are in the process of obtaining the relevant documents and the same will be submitted to the FDA”, Bepari said, while stating that the FDA has nothing to the Goa Meat complex.
He demanded to know how the traders take care of the 18 animals they have procured for slaughter when the Meat Complex now says that they will be allowed slaughter only upon submitting the FSSAI approvals. “The Goa Meat Complex is just a service provider. We fail to understand why the Meat Complex is now insisting on the FDA approval,” he said, while expressing his determination to take the animals to the Meat Complex on Friday for slaughter.
The Meat Complex had on March 23 issued directions to the meat traders and outlets to get the FSSAI approval from the FDA before the proposed to deal with meat sourced from the Complex. The Meat Complex had made it clear that the complex will under no circumstances accept any request for slaughter till the directives of the FDA are complied with.
