Authorities in Calangute have rolled out an extensive traffic management plan in anticipation of the surge of tourists expected on New Year’s Eve. The plan by the Traffic Cell and local police aims to streamline vehicular movement and ensure safety in the area.
Key Highlights of the Plan:
– Diversion Routes: Vehicles from Porvorim heading towards Calangute will be redirected near St. Alex Church towards St. Anthony Chapel, St. Joseph School, and Baga Circle.
– The road from Baga Circle to Baga Beach will operate as ‘ONE WAY,’ prohibiting vehicles from Baga Beach towards Calangute.
Traffic Flow and Parking:
– Vehicles from Baga/Tito’s area will exit via Govt. Primary School junction or the new Baga Bridge towards Arpora for onward travel.
– Restrictions apply to various junctions, limiting traffic for better management: Agarwada Junction, Our Lady of Piety Chapel Junction towards Prabhuwada Junction, among others.
– Designated parking areas include CTDC Ground in Baga, Sahani Property before the new Baga Bridge, and several other lots strategically located in Calangute, Baga, and Candolim.
One-Way Traffic Routes:
Several roads will be converted to ‘ONE WAY’ routes: from St. Anthony Chapel towards Mira Hotel, Jack Sequeira junction towards St. Alex Church via Post Office, and from Neelam Glitz Resort to Dharwadkar Hospital Junction, all permitting only outgoing traffic from Calangute.
Tourist Bus Diversion and Parking:
– Tourist buses from Panaji/Porvorim will be diverted to the Bodkevad parking lot and an open space near Calangute Police Station.
– Buses from Anjuna/Arpora will park at Goa Tourism Parking in Baga.
– Vehicles from Verem/Nerul heading to Candolim will park at Goa Tourism Parking near Candolim Beach and Aguada Helipad.
Light Motor Vehicle Parking:
Light motor vehicles will have allocated parking spaces at various locations, including football grounds, parking lots near landmarks, and open fields in Calangute, Baga, and Candolim.
