In a bid to ease congestion and ensure smoother traffic flow, the Traffic Police Department, under the leadership of Inspector Filomeno Costa, carried out a targeted operation against illegal parking near Damodar Ling in Fatorda.
The area, a known bottleneck during peak hours, has repeatedly witnessed vehicles parked in no-parking zones, causing frequent obstructions for motorists and pedestrians. Acting on complaints and regular observations, the traffic police launched a dedicated enforcement drive to address the issue.

During the operation, nine two-wheelers were found illegally parked in a designated no-parking zone, directly affecting the flow of traffic. The vehicles were clamped on the spot, and challans were issued to the offenders for violating traffic norms.
PI Costa said such enforcement measures form part of a larger plan to instil traffic discipline and discourage motorists from flouting parking rules. “The Damodar Ling junction is a high-traffic area, especially during religious events and market hours. Illegal parking here creates unnecessary chaos and endangers commuters. We’re committed to taking regular action against such violations,” he said.
He noted that the department had earlier put up clear signage in the area warning against parking, but violations persisted. “We are forced to take stricter measures now as previous warnings have had limited impact,” Costa added.
Local residents and daily commuters welcomed the action, describing unchecked illegal parking as a long-standing nuisance. Some urged authorities to extend such operations to nearby areas like the Fatorda junction and Ambaji Road, which also face similar problems.
The traffic police reiterated their warning that enforcement drives will be conducted regularly, with violators facing penalties including towing and clamping. Authorities urged motorists to respect parking rules and cooperate with law enforcement.
