PANJIM: The Serendipity Arts Festival has run into trouble exactly a day after it got underway in the capital city, for gross violation of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act. As many as nine cars have been detained by the Panjim Traffic Cell for not adhering to the law.
The change in colour of the car body, display of ad about the festival, etc without mandatory permission from the RTO has landed the event organizers in trouble.
Police Inspector Brendon D’Souza confirmed that these modified vehicles, which were roped in to ferry the volunteers, delegates, etc related to the festival, have committed violation of the traffic laws despite in the know about the existing rules.
“All the vehicles (currently attached by the police for the offense) have been altered. The exterior body colour has been change without permission from the RTO. So also, stickers stuck on these vehicles are in violation of the law. The modification is also in such a way that registration number plates are not clearly visible. We have attached these vehicles for blatant traffic violation,” he said.
The matter will be brought to the notice of the court on Tuesday following, which challans are likely to be imposed on the owners of the vehicles. The PI revealed that penalty of Rs 2,000 approx will be imposed on each vehicle for violation under section 192 of the MV Act.
