PONDA: As the year draws to a close and the influx of tourists increases on the roads for year-end celebrations, the traffic police in Goa are stepping up their efforts to enforce traffic laws and enhance road safety. In light of the rising number of accidents, the traffic police in Ponda have initiated a special awareness drive, employing speed radars and alcometers to crack down on traffic violators and prevent accidents.
DySP Prabod Shirvoikar, along with the traffic police team, conducted a drive at Bansatarim Bridge, taking action against various violations, especially overtaking and overspeeding. The recent fatal mishap at Bansatarim has prompted intensified enforcement efforts. During the inspection of the bridge, Shirvoikar suggested safety measures, including the installation of delineators and the trimming of overgrown bushes.
Addressing the public, Shirvoikar emphasised the importance of prioritising safety on the road. He urged vehicle drivers to consider their safety and the safety of other road users, including pedestrians. Stressing compliance with the law, he reminded that seat belts are mandatory not only for drivers but also for all occupants in a car.
Shirvoikar highlighted the grave consequences of head injuries suffered by bike riders and pillion riders in accidents, emphasising the importance of helmets for both riders and passengers. He sternly warned against driving under the influence of alcohol, stating that drunken driving is strictly prohibited, and called on everyone to adhere to traffic rules for the collective safety of all road users.
