Panjim: The Traffic Department has issued summons to two celebrity choreographers Remo D’Souza and Salman Y Khan to appear before the police for violating the traffic norms during their stay in Goa.
Remo and Salman had posted videos on their respective Instagram accounts riding two-wheelers on the Atal Setu cable-stayed bridge that bans two and three-wheelers.
The choreographers soon withdrew the videos after facing heavy backlash from social media users in Goa, who demanded that State Police should take immediate action against them.
“We have asked Remo and Salman to appear before the traffic police for the violation. They have already left the State but they have assured us of cooperating with the probe,” Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Dinraj Govekar told Herald.
Herald was the only newspaper to report about the violation in its edition on Thursday, prompting the department for an immediate follow up to its inquiry.
“The rains and the ride… #Goa is amazing isn’t it @mohanshakti,” Salman had posted a note on his Instagram with a 34 second video that showed him riding a two-wheeler on Atal Setu. Shakti Mohan, also a choreographer was his pillion rider.
Besides the present violation, none of the two were also seen wearing face masks despite the fact that masks have been made mandatory by the government to curb the spread of rising COVID-19 cases across the country.
In another video, Remo D’Souza was also seen breaking the rules by riding a two-wheeler on the third Mandovi Bridge.
The videos have gone viral with people demanding action against the traffic violators.
Govekar said the Traffic Cell has also seized the two bikes, whose owner identified as a Candolim-resident. Sources said the two-wheelers did not have the permit for rent.
“Thanks #Goa for bringing traffic violations to notice. Recently two bikers were seen riding on Atal Setu which is closed to 2 wheelers. SP Traffic Dinraj Govekar took cognisance and not only identified and impounded the bikes but has summoned riders for legal action,” read the tweet from Goa Police’s official account.
