Panjim: With an eye on making the State self-reliant, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched the “Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swayampurna Goa”.
Under the village level action plan, 40 village panchayats (VPs) will be taken up by 25 colleges in the first phase.

The college students and teachers will review the potential of every VP area and accordingly an economic revival plan will be submitted along with helping people to become self-reliant.
Sawant said that the role of every local body elected representatives, colleges, teachers, students, NGOs, youth clubs and self-help group will be crucial to achieve the goal.
“Employees of 27 government depts and all panchas and sarpanchas will have to identify the needy and their necessities. Nobody should sleep hungry,” he said.
He further added “Goa will complete 60 years of liberation and still if someone is sleeping hungry, we have to give a serious thought”.
Sawant further said that the current COVID-19 pandemic has thought the people to become self-reliant.
He said that right from milk, vegetable, rice, oil, eggs, meat, flowers, poultry everything is coming from outside.
“If the State’s youth decides, Goa can become self-reliant. Crores of rupees worth business will remain in the State,” he said.
The CM said the govt recognises the efforts made by the panchas and sarpanchas besides the Goa Police and will felicitate them with “COVID Warrior Certificate”.
He also announced that the 5 best performing panchayats and colleges would be rewarded next October 2.
The CM launched the initiative at a virtual function in the presence of Ministers, MLAs, govt officials, NGOs, sarpanchas, panchas of 191 VPs and staff of various colleges across the State.
