MAPUSA: A musician from Mapusa, Michael D’Souza, was allegedly assaulted while he was allegedly video recording the people violating the ‘No Entry’ sign on his way home near a pharmacy in Mapusa on Wednesday night.
Suspecting that he was photographing traffic violations on his phone in the town, two people got into an argument with him, pushed him and took the mobile from his hand and gradually a crowd gathered.
Acting on the complaint filed by the victim, the Mapusa Police arrested the duo accused of the assault on D’Souza in the incident namely, Santosh Pillai and Subhash Chavan, both residents of Mapusa. They have been booked under Sections 143, 147, 506 (ii), 341,356, 352, 323 read with 149 of IPC.
One person took the victim to safety but the angry mob kept following him causing chaos. Even after the police team arrived at the spot, the angry mob refused to disperse with some threatening to block the main road and the others shouting chants against the Traffic sentinel scheme. The ruckus continued till late night. After taking medical treatment at District Hospital at Mapusa, the victim went to the Mapusa Police Station to register a complaint.
This is the second incident concerning traffic sentinel that has occurred in Mapusa.
