VASCO: In a U-turn, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho has now said that the said that the CRZ 2019 new regulations are not going to affect Goa.
Mauvin said that the CRZ and National Green Tribunal (NGT) have come in the way of every development.
The panchayat minister had earlier said that reduction of CRZ from 100 mtrs to 50 mtrs has not been studied well before notification. Mauvin had said that the reduction of the CRZ regulation may be good for lands by the rivers but the same for the beach areas it is not right.
Inaugurating a toilet block at Bogmalo, the minister said, “This is one of the best toilets in Goa, but I find it appalling that the CRZ had raised an objection and they come in the way of every development like the NGT which stopped (for a while) the work of the third Mandovi Bridge.”
“This is how democracy works,” Mavuin regretted.
Mocking the NGOs, Mauvin said, “As far as CRZ is concerned, I would mention they (NGOs) said it will impact Goa and no beaches will remain. Without analysing, they go hammer and tongs criticising the government. There are certain parameters and Goa is going to remain as it is,” Mauvin told the media.
“Everything is going to remain as it is. At the most it will impact our rivers (by reducing its buffer from 100 mtrs to 50 mtrs). That’s it,” he said.
