Tragedy strikes Advai as 2 buffaloes perish in swamp

Eight other animals rescued by Valpoi fire personnel

VALPOI: In an unfortunate incident, two buffaloes lost their lives after getting stuck in a swamp at Advai village in Bhironda panchayat. 

Fortunately, Valpoi fire and emergency personnel were able to rescue eight other buffaloes from the same swamp.

A swamp behind Shri Shantadurga temple is often used by cattle to rest. However, the same swamp is deep at various places. Local Pralhad Desai noticed that the buffaloes were struggling to get out of the puddle and immediately informed Valpoi fire station.

According to the firefighters, they were successful in pulling out eight buffaloes but the other two died. According to locals, buffaloes of three owners had gone missing a few days ago. The respective swamp is in a secluded area and is less frequented by people. A few locals had tried to rescue the cattle albeit to no avail, so they later informed the fire station.
