In a heart-wrenching incident, 16-year-old boy Anil Chavan tragically lost his life by drowning in a laterite quarry at Cansaulim. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves through the community.
Anil Chavan, a resident of Shantinagar in Vasco, was a student at a higher secondary school located in Zuarinagar. Along with two fellow students from the same school, he had ventured to the old laterite quarry, which had been filled with rainwater. The purpose of their visit remains unknown, whether it was a college outing or a casual outing. However, the three friends decided to go for a swim in the water-filled quarry.
A dreadful turn of events unfolded when Anil while swimming, found himself struggling to get out of the water. His two companions, in a valiant effort, tried their best to rescue him but were unable to do so. Realizing the severity of the situation, they immediately alerted the local authorities for assistance.
A local named Anand Lamani rushed to the scene. He then managed to recover Anil’s body from the water, which had reached a depth of ten feet. The Verna police, who promptly arrived at the scene, have initiated a thorough investigation into the drowning incident.
