PANJIM: To add to the controversy surrounding the digging work on the NIO-Dona Paula jetty road, a truck loaded with cement bags, literally ‘slipped its moorings’ overturned and got stuck on the side of the road, and miraculously did not roll down the slope or did not injure anyone.
There are houses on both sides of the narrow road, made even narrower by the road work that is ongoing for the last couple of months.
Sources say that the driver, who was slightly injured in the accident, had parked his truck by the side of the road waiting for it to be unloaded and nodded off to sleep. The truck probably slipped out of gear and rolled down the slope before crashing the road apron/retaining wall and toppling over on its side.
