PONDA: Industries Mahadev Naik, who is also chairman of the government-appointed Truck Business Committee (TBC), has stated the committee will soon convene a meeting with the truck owners affected by suspension of mining activity to work out a favourable solution.

It may be recalled that the State government had formed the TBC in November 2012 to look into grievances of truck owners affected by suspension of mining activity in the State.
Committee Chairman Naik said the decision to sort out the problem will be taken during a meeting of the truck owners shortly.
“We had asked for registration of the trucks in the mining business. Initially, 7,189 trucks were registered and subsequently another 800 trucks. In all, Rs 673 crore including Rs 605 crore of principal amount is to be repaid by the truckers to the banks,” informed Naik.
“We are looking for various options and will discuss it during the meeting with the truck owners,” added Naik.
The truck owners had asked for a financial package from the State government to the people affected due to suspension of mining, however Naik said it will discussed during the meeting.
Naik also rubbished reports that claimed that there were over 20,000 trucks in the State in the mining business as the committee has only received 7,989 registration forms.
