MARGAO: President of Salcete Truck Owners Association, Franky Gomes has requested the government to extend the mining ban to all geological natural resources in the State.
He said the National Green Tribunal’s ban on sand extraction two months ago was justified and requested the government that the ban on mining of other geological natural resources such as rubble, laterite stone, black metal etc should be notified on similar lines.
Gomes reiterated that a complete ban on all geological natural resources should be notified and enforced until such time that the government puts in place a robust system to regulate the mining of all the geological natural resources in the state.
He lamented that NGOs who were vociferous in opposing mining of iron ore are not bothered about the unregulated extraction and depletion of other natural resources such as sand, laterite stone, black metal etc. “Won’t our future generations use sand and stones for construction of houses”, he questioned.
