CURCHOREM: The South Goa Progressive Truck Owners’ Association (SGPTOA) has demanded a loan from the government to clear the loans that they have availed from cooperative banks and credit societies. They stated that they had received letters to pay the outstanding amounts by March 31.
At a press conference on Friday, SGPTOA president Prakash Raut Dessai said that the mining-affected people were still awaiting the complete resumption of mining activities as the activities that have commenced are very limited.
“Since those who had opted for the One Time Settlement (OTS) scheme got relief, the government should provide loans to those who had taken loans from cooperative banks and societies and subsequently, recover the same in installments,” said Dessai.
He also urged the government to finalise the ore transportation rate. Expressing displeasure at not being given an appointment by Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar despite their repeated requests, SGPTOA treasurer Cajitan Fernandes urged the BJP to appraise the conditions of the mining-affected people.

“Before starting mining activities, the government should have solved the problem of the mining bypass. Now the people are complaining about dust pollution, traffic jams and accidents, even though the mining activities that have been started are limited and on a small-scale,” said Fernandes.
