PANJIM: A Twitter war broke out between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) after the former complained to the Election Commission of India (ECI) that the TMC is fooling the people of Goa by announcing “unrealistic” Griha Laxmi Scheme.

The BJP also took on the TMC Yuva Shakti scheme, empowering youth between 18 and 45 by offering a bank credit of Rs 20 lakh to set up businesses and augment skills. In a dig at IPAC which is managing the TMC campaign, the BJP tweeted.

Congratulations to the Advertising Agency which is contesting elections in Goa for rebranding another scheme launched by BJP in Goa. The Chief Minister Rozgar Yojana in Goa provides project finance of upto 25 Lakhs with interest rate as low as 3%. @AITCofficial

Taking to its official Twitter handle, the TMC reacted “Proof of the pudding is in the eating! In 10 years of @BJP4India-led Goa Govt., the so-called “well structured” CMRY has benefited merely 2,807 Goans. This shocking stat accurately depicts the minuscule reach and popularity of your scheme,” it said ripping apart the BJP’s Chief Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (CMRY) and exposing its complex eligibility criteria and unstructured format which have been used over the last decade to fool Goans!

To this the Goa BJP said in a tweet, The Goa CMRY is a well-structured scheme for Goans, where effective interest rate goes down to 3% in most cases. Is @AITCofficial proposing waiver on the need for 15 years Residence Certificate? If yes, for whose Benefit? Goans want to hear from the regional party of West Bengal.”

Immediately TMC replied in a tweet, “Delighted you asked! Our initiative will address EVERY GOENKAR with a simplified model, unlike @BJP4India schemes with complexity added to hide their hollow intent. Also, before calling Goa TMC regional, please check on the origins of BJP-founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee!”

In its third tweet, the TMC ripped through the BJP government’s CMRY scheme and said in bullet points, “This is the reality of CMRY by @BJP4Goa-led govt. 8% interest rate, Immovable. Assets as Collateral on Rs 6 lakh+ amount. 15 years residence. Certificate needed. 10%margin on each loan. Additional application fee. Please stop fooling Goenkars.”

Meanwhile, the women’s wing of BJP Goa has sought the intervention of the Chief Electoral Office into the “unrealistic” Griha Laxmi scheme announced by the TMC.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, BJP Mahila Morcha President Sheetal Naik asked the AITC to stop fooling people. “We have submitted a memorandum to the CEO, Goa seeking intervention into the election promise of Rs 5,000 under the yet-to-be-launched Griha Laxmi scheme. The AITC is fooling the people of Goa and as such we have urged the CEO on what basis are they making this unrealistic promise,” she said.

Sulakshana Sawant, wife of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and one of the leading Mahila Morcha leaders said the AITC has combined BJP’s 10-year-old schemes Griha Aadhar and Laadli Laxmi to name their “unrealistic” scheme Griha Laxmi. The women’s wing also alleged that the scheme will be an additional burden on State.
