MARGAO: Two bikes belonging to one Menino Santana Fernandes were set on fire by an unknown miscreant at Sonu Township, Nessai, Sao Jose De Areal on Thursday night.
Fernandes said he saw the person trespassing into his property, pouring petrol and setting his two scooters on fire. But by the time he came out, the miscreant fled from the spot. However, the miscreant has been captured in the CCTV but he had covered his face with his shirt.
Later, the Margao fire personnel rushed to the spot and put out the blaze. Both the vehicles were completely destroyed in fire and the loss is estimated to be around Rs 1.25 lakh.
Fernandes has suspected that this was an act by some persons against whom he has been fighting for committing illegalities in the village. He said that he has been fighting to protect open space which some villagers had been trying to encroach upon. He recalled that in February 2016 some persons including a couple had assaulted him and pushed him in the burning bush. But the woman later filed a molestation case against Fernandes.
Fernandes has filed a police station with the Maina-Curtorim police station in this connection.
