MARGAO: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) seems to have got their act together and have intensified activities in south Goa. On Wednesday the FDA raided and sealed two eateries in Margao over non-compliance of the hygiene norms.
After inspection, Salam Fast Food and Chinese Nest, in Margao were shut down by the FDA on finding various violations like failing to use of stainless steel mats, keeping brooms in kitchen, use of food colour, unclean kitchen and other related violations.
Food colour in Chinese food is not allowed, besides strict norms have been laid down regarding the availability of water filter in the eateries.
FDA Official Iva Fernandes emphasised that this was part of the routine check up the Administration conducts on a regular basis and other inquiry too were on.
The owner of one of the premises, Nelson Fernandes cried foul and accused of political vendetta against him, because of his filing the Right to Information in SGPDA office.
The same yard stick has to be applied to all the eateries, as there are vendors selling on items on the footpaths who do not follow any hygiene standards.
“This is political vendetta by TCP and Fatorda MLA,” Nelson emphasised.
Meanwhile, the FDA official clarified to the media that this was part of a constant exercise the FDA has been taking up and in future too there will be surprise checks at all the eateries and violators will be booked.
