Two held for thefts, six cases solved

PERNEM: In a major breakthrough, Pernem police arrested a 22-year-old native of Sawantwadi and a juvenile in connection with the theft of two-wheelers, car stereos and burglaries in Pernem taluka. With this the police have solved six crimes reported at Pernem police station. The police disclosed the name of the accused as Camilo Rodrigues.

Police informed that the accused and the juvenile along with their associates used to lift two-wheelers during the night and sell it at cheap rates. The accused would also steal car stereos and other valuables from parked cars, besides committing burglaries in shops. Police have recovered a Maruti 800 car (GA-02-J-2527), which was reported missing from Panjim, a Hero Honda Splendor motorcycle (GA-04-A-5985), a Yamaha motorcycle (GA-02-F-6299), a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle without a registration plate, three car stereos, two speakers, one car jack, one mobile phone, two remote controls and one bag containing documents. While Camilo has been remanded to four days police custody, the juvenile was lodged at Apna Ghar, Merces. 
Theft attempt at Santa Cruz
OLD GOA: A resident of Alto St Cruz has accused a native of Rajasthan of attempting to commit theft in his residence. According to Old Goa police, Sunil Raikar complained that the accused entered his house by break opening the window glass of the kitchen and attempted to commit theft. ASI P P Gawas is investigating the case.
Mapusa local held for outraging modesty
MAPUSA: Mapusa police arrested a man on charges of outraging the modesty of a minor girl at Khorlim-Mapusa on Wednesday. According to Mapusa police, the mother of the victim girl complained that the accused, Rajat Shinde, took her daughter to a room with intention to fulfil his sexual lust, thereby outraging her modesty. Mapusa police arrested the accused under Sections 342, 354, 376 IPC & Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act 2003 & Section 4, 8 of POCSO Act 2012. R A Kalangutkar is investigating the case. 
Male found dead on Calangute beach 
CALANGUTE: An unidentified male body was found on the seashore at Tivai Waddo in Calangute. According to Calangute police, the deceased is suspected to be in his early forties. The body is preserved at GMC morgue in Bambolim for post-mortem and identification. PSI Shrikant Pednekar is investigating. 
Balli local dies in Canacona mishap
CANACONA: A 50-year-old man from Adnem, Balli-Quepem, died in a road accident at Khalwadem-Canacona on Wednesday. According to Canacona police, a bus (GA-02-T-4868) was proceeding from Karwar to Margao when it knocked down A motorcycle (GA-09-F-6392), which was proceeding in the same direction towards Canacona. Grievously injured motorcycle rider, Laxman Naik, died on the spot. PSI P Dessai is investigating the case. 
Fire destroys bar in Pomburpa
PORVORIM: A bar was gutted in a fire at Pomburpa around Wednesday midnight, destroying property worth about Rs 3.5 lakh. An electrical short circuit is believed to be the cause of the fire, a fire official told Herald. Mapusa fire services received a call at around Wednesday midnight stating that a fire had broken out at Subhadra Bar, owned by Ramkrishna Hadfadkar. Senior fire station officer Dattaram Redkar along with his staff and a fire tender rushed to the site and managed to douse the fire within an hour. Primary investigation has pegged the damage at Rs 3.5 lakh, which included liquor stock, two refrigerators, five tables, 15 chairs, two ceiling fans and cash of Rs 30, 000.
Mass for workers in city
PANJIM: The Holy Eucharist will be celebrated for workers at Mary Immaculate Church, Panjim at 1.15 pm on August 1, being the 1st Friday of the month. This Mass is being organized by Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation. A priest will be available for confessions from 12.30 pm. 
St Anna’s feast at Santa Cruz
PANJIM: The annual feast of St Anna (Santan Saibin) will be celebrated on August 3, at St Anna Chapel, Cabesa, Santa Cruz. The novenas began on July 25. The concelebrated feast mass will be held at 10 am followed by a procession. This year the feast is being celebrated by Antonio (Babit) Azavedo, Joao M Fernandes , Luis Fernandes, Thereza Araujo and Cajie Azavedo.
Goa Instawalk at Tambdi Surla and Fontainhas on August 9 and 10
PANJIM: Goa Tourism is all set to conduct the second version of Goa Instawalk in association with the Welcome Heritage Hotels on August 9 and 10. Tourism Minister, Dilip Parulekar said, “We invite all photography enthusiasts to discover a new side of Goa and enjoy all that the State has to offer.” Goa Instawalk 2.0 aims at showcasing Goa’s architectural heritage, its natural and cultural attractions as well as the greener side of Goa during monsoons. This integrated social media on ground activation will be a 2 days activity wherein places like Tambdi Surla, Kesarval Spring and Fountainhas will be covered. An Instawalk is a real-time casual walking tour through a selected area hosted by an instagrammer or an influencer. The process follows a director that exhibits known and unknown aspects in a specific area.
Admission for health science courses
PANJIM: The counselling-cum-admission for the allied health science courses is scheduled on August 4, at 2.30 pm in the conference hall, Goa Medical College Bambolim. The students are requested to attend this session along with their original certificates and the fees.
