VASCO: The 35-year-old dilapidated public toilets at Belabai, Vasco, will soon be rebuilt with the initiative of Mormugao Municipal Council.
Another toilet at the Mestawado will also be rebuilt for the people of the ward. These toilets are in unusable condition for the last 10 years.
The toilets have been in a bad condition for several years and the proposal of the reconstruction of these toilets has been making rounds of the administration since 2016.
Local Councillor Rochana Borkar has informed that since there are a number of wells in Mestawado and Belabai, the people did not get permission for soak pits, as such, they had to rely on the public toilets.
Two toilets at Belabai and one in Mestawado will finally be rebuilt at a cost of Rs 16 lakh and will be completed and handed over in a couple of months.
Rochana said, “The people have been facing inconvenience for several years and I have been taking efforts to complete this work since 2016. I thank Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar and the Urban Development Minister Milind Naik for the help in getting the works started.”
Councillor Krishna Daji Salkar also alleged that these and many other works were being held up earlier as he had contested election of Vasco assembly seat.
Chairperson Kritesh Gaonkar said that works worth another Rs 1 crore have been tendered for that ward and the same would begin, soon.
