MARGAO: Maina-Curtorim Police on Thursday arrested four persons, two drivers and two truck owners, for illegally extracting sand and transporting without valid any lease or licence from the competent authority.
The police have seized the two trucks loaded with sand along with drivers Anthony Gomes (33), of Sao Jose de Areal and Berto Pereira (51), residing near Primary Health Centre, Quepem and owners Rigino Fernandes of Curtorim and Rui Menezes of Corje, Curtorim.
Police Sub-Inspector Deepesh Shetkar lodged a complaint on behalf of the State and an offence under Section 379 IPC and Section 3 read with 62 (2) of Goa Daman and Diu Minor Mineral Concession Rule 1985 has been registered.
Police said that the accused persons committed theft of sand by extracting from a government river and transported it without having any lease or licence from the competent authority.
PSI Deepesh Shetkar is investigating the case.
