POINGUINIM: Four Ukranian nationals travelling in a Goa-registered car tried to hoodwink a petrol pump at Gokarna-Karwar, but were caught by the Karwar police on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Karwar police, the four of them were travelling in a car and filled petrol of Rs 2000, before fleeing without paying the money.
The petrol pump manager saw them fleeing away and noted the number of the vehicle and informed the police, who immediately swung into action and flashed wireless messages to other police teams.
Three tourists were intercepted at Binaga-Karwar on the NH-17, while one managed to escape. The accused were later taken into by the Gokarna police.
Investigation by the Karwar police revealed that they were staying at a hotel in North Goa and were regular visitors to Gokarna beach.
The accused are in custody at Gokarna police station for further investigation and their past history.
