MARGAO: In a surprising turn of events, locals from Navelim and Margao have been charged for sewerage fees when these areas are not yet connected to the sewerage network.
Former Chairperson of MMC Savio Coutinho strongly criticised the Water Supply Department for the charges levied on consumers on account of sewerage services.
Coutinho stated that several areas of Margao including Colmorod, Ratwaddo, Aquem Baixo, Calcondem etc. are yet to be connected to the sewerage network. However, sewerage charges have been included in the bills issued to the consumers. He further stated that the sewerage work is in the preliminary stages and would probably take over a year complete. As such, charging the consumers for a service that is not provided is indeed looting of the consumers.
He demanded that the bills issued with sewerage charges should be rectified. Coutinho cautioned the consumers to verify and get their bills corrected before making the payments.
