Poriem MLA Dr Deviya Rane on Thursday described the Union Budget presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as progressive, growth-oriented and inclusive, stating that it addresses the needs of diverse sections of society, including persons with disabilities.
Speaking to the media, Dr Rane said the budget reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong commitment to national security, pointing out that the allocation for defence has been significantly enhanced from ₹2.29 lakh crore to ₹7.87 lakh crore. She added that nearly 75 per cent of the defence budget will be channelled towards Indian-based defence manufacturing companies, boosting the country’s self-reliance under the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The MLA also lauded the introduction of the ‘Coconut Promotion Scheme 2026’, saying it would provide major relief to coconut farmers in Goa and strengthen the state’s agrarian economy.
In addition, she welcomed the dedicated proposals for Indian cashew farming, noting that they would help make the country self-reliant in cashew production while creating better opportunities for farmers.
Dr Rane said the budget demonstrates the Centre’s focus on inclusive development, economic growth and strengthening India’s strategic and agricultural sectors.
