PANJIM: In view of ensuing Lok Sabha elections scheduled next year, Union Minister for Information Technology Rajiv Chandrasekhar held a meeting with BJP Ministers and MLAs at a city hotel on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by 30 MLAs, which included MLAs from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and the independents.

According to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the Union Minister discussed implementation of Central projects in the State. He also discussed constituency wise strategies for the Lok Sabha elections. The MLAs put forward their suggestions for winning both seats in the general elections. Among the three independents Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco did not attend the meeting as he was out of the city, Sawant said.
Speaking to reporters, Chandrasekhar said, “We discussed how last 10 years of transformation of India and Goa must continue and we must work hard to ensure that the people of Goa continue to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he has transformed India during the last 10 years and continues to take India forward to make India a developed nation.”
Chandrasekhar expressed confidence that due to the work done by the governments, both at the Centre and the State, people of Goa will give a resounding mandate to the BJP.
To a question related the candidate for South Goa Lok Sabha constituency, the Union Minister said, “The candidate will be from the BJP and it will be premature to discuss the name of the candidate. We have a system of selecting candidates. We are not a family party which will suggest a name and that will be final,” he said.
BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade said the candidate will be finalised before the election dates are announced.
“The State Election Committee will recommend the names of candidates to the Parliamentary Board, who will take final decision on the candidate,” Tanavade said.
Meanwhile, responding to a question, the Chief Minister said if any regional party wishes to support the BJP in the general elections, they are welcome.
