MARGAO: Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai has cautioned that the regional forces will do a great disservice to the cause of Goa and Goans if they play in the hands of the BJP when the national party has declared its candidates for the North and South Goa Lok Sabha seats with clear RSS links.
The Fatorda MLA said BJP president Rajnath Singh on one hand has tried to approach the Muslim community with an offer of apology, while at the same time cleared its candidates for Goa with strong RSS links when even the candidature of L K Advani does not figure in BJP’s first list of candidate.
He told the media that though the prime need is regional unity, the regional players would do disservice if they disturb the unity of Goans by playing in the hands of the BJP. “My endeavour is not to divide Goans at this crucial juncture when the common enemy should be Narendra Modi. One cannot do something where the unity of Goans gets disturbed”, the Independent MLA said, while media sought his reaction to attempts being made to unite the regional forces to jointly fight the coming Lok Sabha polls.
He, however, said the Congress should not waste time in declaring its candidate and blamed the national party for not learning from its follies. “The Congress is not in a resurgent mood. The party has not learnt from past mistakes. What is being offered is family raj. They are not willing to admit and introspect why the party should be reduced to a single digit”, he said.
On former Congressman Dayanand Narvekar’s decision to float a new party, Vijai said Narvekar’s behaviour is nothing new when he was critical of
the party during his long stint in the Congress. “Naverkar is the main person responsible for defeat of the Congress. There’s nothing new as far as Narvekar’s opposition to the Congress is concerned”, he said, adding that he would not be part of the attempts to unite the regional forces at the present juncture.
