PONDA: More than a month has lapsed since the leaking water pipeline on the road opposite St Anne’s Church in Ponda’s Upper Bazaar area was repaired, but the traffic safety cones that were installed there as a precaution for motorists remain fixed in the middle of the road, confusing commuters and resulting in traffic snags.
With a school located close to the site, the situation gets all the more risky during peak hours when students either arrive at or leave from school as the likelihood of vehicles colliding into them while they cross the road is high.
Rocky Dias, who uses the road every day, said the pipeline developed a leak a month ago and was fixed the very next day after some locals alerted the public works department and the traffic cell of the Goa Police. “The traffic cell had installed the cones there for the safety of commuters but seems to have forgotten to remove them now that the repair work has long been completed. They should be removed immediately to prevent motorists from veering into the path of oncoming traffic just so that they can avoid the cones,” Dias said.
