PANJIM: Cyclone Fengal which will hit the East Coast on Saturday, November 30, is expected to dampen the festivities of the St Francis Xavier’s feast in Goa due to unseasonal showers from Monday to Wednesday.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone Fengal will cross the Tamil Nadu – Puducherry coast sometime during the afternoon hours on Saturday. Cyclone Fengal is expected to move across to the west coast with unseasonal rainfall across South India between Saturday, November 30, and Wednesday, December 4.
Goa may receive light to moderate rainfall from December 2 to 4 due to the developing cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, rainfall may occur in a few places in Goa. “Light to moderate rainfall is very likely over North Goa and South Goa districts of the state on December 2, 3 and 4,” the IMD said.
IMD has issued a ‘red alert’ in seven districts and an ‘orange alert’ in five districts of Tamil Nadu for Saturday. The cyclone will weaken in the Arabian Sea on December 5 and subside.
The IMD said the deep depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved north of north-westwards with a speed of 8 kmph during the past six hours and lay centered at 0830 hours IST on November 29, over the same region near latitude 10.6°N and longitude 82.6°E, about 270 km north-northeast of Trincomalee, 300 km east of Nagapattinam, 340 km east-southeast of Puducherry and 380 km southeast of Chennai.
“It is likely to move north-westwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm during the next six hours. Thereafter, it is likely to continue to move north-westwards and cross the north of Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph during afternoon November 30,” the IMD said.
Meanwhile, Dabolim recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 19.5 degrees this morning. Panaji recorded minimum temperature of 19.6 degrees which is 2.2 degrees lower than the normal temperature
