A 36-year-old American national, Jordan Brown, is under investigation after being arrested while allegedly attempting to enter Nepal through an unauthorised route near the India-Nepal border. Authorities are now piecing together his movements across India, including a six-week stay in Goa.
Investigators said Brown arrived in India from Bali around eight weeks ago before spending nearly six weeks in Goa. He later travelled to Sonauli in Uttar Pradesh, where he was intercepted by the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and local police.

Brown reportedly claimed he met a Nepali national during his stay in Goa and was travelling to meet him before crossing into Nepal. However, he was unable to provide the man’s full name, address or contact details.
He also told investigators that his passport had been left with an acquaintance in Bengaluru but failed to identify the person. Officials are now verifying his travel history, digital footprint and the circumstances surrounding his missing passport.
Authorities are also examining Brown’s claims of having served in the US Navy and Special Forces, along with the reported recovery of a Chinese passport among his belongings. Officials stressed that these claims are being independently verified and that, so far, no evidence of suspicious activity has emerged beyond the alleged immigration violations.
A case has been registered against Brown under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, and he has been remanded to judicial custody as investigations continue.
