Around 1000 citizens of Utorda assembled at the Mollar grounds in solidarity with the call given by the Utorda Citizens Action Committee to know the reasons for the ouster of the Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch of Majorda-Utorda-Calata VillageThe meeting rolled off with the Convenor Ulrique Rodrigues pointing out at the outset that he was neither speaking or defending the Sarpanch or Deputy Sarpanch and reminded the gathering that at the start of the tenure of the Sarpanch and deputy Sarpanch, it was spelled out that in the larger interest of the village, and to ensure development, toppling of the Sarpanch will be done by the respective Panch members only after taking the citizens/voters into confidence, according to a press release issued here.
He was critical of frequent changes of Sarpanch by no-confidence and supported his statement by giving statistics of the tenure of 7 Sarpanchas in the last 5 years. The frequent changes in Sarpanchas chair has become bane of the general public as they have to run from pillar to post to get their problems settled during the intervening period till a new Sarpanch is elected.
Worst still there were serious apprehensions in the mind of
the general public, whether was money was greasing the
palms of panchas in the present ouster game which is not all
in the interest of the village.
It was concluded that a public meeting of the entire village
will be held shortly to ensure that the toppling bid of
Sarpanch and Deputy Sarpanch be stopped. The gathering is
not in support or opposing any individual and rather puts
Majorda-Utorda-Calata first, before any individual, states
the press release.
