Valpoi cops intercept Karnataka registered vehicle laden with cash

Seize Rs 5.20 lakh from the occupants

PANJIM: The Valpoi police on Sunday intercepted a Karnataka registered vehicle at Keri-Sattari check post and seized Rs 5.20 lakh from the occupants of the vehicle.

According to the police, the vehicle had three occupants namley Shivanand Hiremath, resident of Dharwad, Ravi Tavarakheda, resident of Bijapur and Chandrakant Badigar, resident of Hubli, Dharwad. The vehicle was being driven by Shivanand Hiremath and they were proceeding from Panjim to Belgavi. They were found in possession of Rs 5.20 lakh in different denominations. 

When inquired Ravi Tavarakheda, owner of the vehicle, told the police that they had come to Goa to play in a casino and he had won the money in the casino. However, when the police asked him to produce any legal document to prove his claim, the accused failed to do so. 

As the Election Code of Conduct is in force, the Valpoi Police have registered an offence under section 188 of IPC and arrested the accused. The case is being investigated by the Valpoi Police under the supervision of SDPO Bicholim and overall supervision of North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal.

   The seizure was made by Static Surveillance Team (SST) deployed at the Sattari Check Post in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The car was on its way to Belgavi via Chorla Ghat. The cash was seized from them, police said.
