Commotion broke out after handcarts moved close to Mahadev temple on MMC direction

VASCO: A spat between fruit handcarts operators and traditional fish vendors from Vasco spared tension and chaos near Vasco fish market on Saturday morning.
According to information, commotion broke out between two groups of vendors after Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) asked a group of fruit vendors (operating movable handcarts near fish market) to shift to some other locations as they all were  blocking the access of newly constructed commercial building adjacent to Vasco fish market.
Heeding to MMC direction, when the fruit vendors move their handcarts operators on the other side of the road close to the Mahadev Temple, the fisher women managing the affairs of Mahadev temple, raised objected to the same and did not allow the handcarts close in the vicinity of temple premises.
This led to commotion between the both the groups which lasted for over one hour.
Anticipating law and order problems, even the officials of Vasco police rushed to the site and tried to convince both the groups, however both the groups remained adamant and did not pay any heed to the request made by the police officials.
Later, the fruit vendors met MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik and sought his intervention to resolve the issue. After giving patience hearing, Naik asked the fruit vendors to avoid getting into fight with the temple committees and if the temple committee has any objection, then, they should look out alternate location to operate.
However, unconvinced, the fruit vendors decided to hold meeting to draw up their action plan. Similarly, the temple committee has also decided not to allow hand carts in close proximity to the temple.
